Kanchanaburi is located 130 km west of Bangkok and the province stretches to the Burman border. Kanchanaburi was built by the King Rama I, as a defense line against the potential Burman invasions through the Three pagoda pass. The area is splendid and hosts not less than seven national parks. Kanchanaburi offers many options of excusions and activities in its various national parks to discover the natural wonders of the area, like Erawan waterfalls, an absolutely scenic place with many levels of pools pouring to each other. For all Golf lovers, the area of Kanchanaburi also offers really nice options, as you will find not less than about ten golf courses of international class, like the Mission Hills Golf Club, designed by Jack Nicklaus or the Blue Saphire Golf & resort, absolutely splendid.

But nowadays, since the media coverage of the temple, the Wat Pha Luang Ta Bua or Tiger temple has become the main atraction of the area. The pictures of these domesticated tigers have attracted many tourists, and they were almost 900 visitors per day in 2008 !
